An orientation program on the Code of Conduct for Clean, Credible, and Responsible Journalism, organized by the Media Council Madhesh Province, was successfully held in Kalaiya.
The event took place at Sarvottam Hotel in Ward No. 4 of Kalaiya Sub-Metropolitan City. It was chaired by Bandana Jha, Acting Chairperson of the Media Council Madhesh Province, and attended by former Chief Minister of Madhesh Province, Jitendra Sonal, as the chief guest.
The program focused on improving the quality of journalism, strengthening professional responsibility, and ensuring effective implementation of the journalistic code of conduct. Addressing the gathering, Sonal highlighted the vital role of journalism in strengthening democracy, promoting good governance, and providing citizens with accurate information. He stressed the importance of truthful, impartial, and accountable journalism.
Special guest and trainer Dharmendra Jha conducted sessions on media ethics, challenges facing the communication sector, the responsibilities of journalists in the digital age, and the fundamentals of news writing. He emphasized that full adherence to the code of conduct is essential for maintaining credible, dignified, and people-centered journalism.
The program was attended by representatives of the Federation of Nepali Journalists, including Central Member Sikendra Paswan, Madhesh Province President Shyam Banjara, Provincial Treasurer Anil Gaurav, and Provincial Member Sajir Mansur, among others.
Acting Chairperson Bandana Jha stated that similar programs would continue to be organized to enhance journalists’ skills and professional competence. Participating journalists said the training provided valuable insights into media ethics, professional standards, and the challenges currently facing the media sector.
The program, hosted by Media Council Administrative Officer Om Bikram Katuwal, saw notable participation from journalists and stakeholders representing various media outlets across Bara district.
Organizers expressed confidence that the event would contribute to promoting clean, fair, and responsible journalism in the region.
