Birgunj, Aam Janata Party (AJP) Chairman and former minister Prabhu Sah has criticized the government led by Balen Shah, claiming it has gradually become ineffective despite receiving a strong public mandate.
Addressing an extended meeting of his party’s Madhesh Province committee in Birgunj on Saturday, Sah said the government has failed to meet public expectations on good governance, transparency, and accountability. He alleged that promises to reform public administration, reduce bureaucracy, and promote integrity have not been fulfilled.
Sah also criticized the recently unveiled national budget, arguing that it offers little hope for economic growth, increases taxes and debt, neglects farmers and unemployed youth, and fails to address regional inequality. He accused the government of favoring influential business groups while ignoring the needs of ordinary citizens.
On social justice, Sah claimed the government has marginalized vulnerable communities, particularly Madhesi Dalits, stating that the rise of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has left Madhesi Dalits without representation in the House of Representatives. He further accused the administration of weakening democratic institutions, sidelining Parliament, and governing through ordinances rather than established democratic processes.
Sah also expressed dissatisfaction over what he described as the government’s neglect of Madhesh and Birgunj, arguing that the region has been overlooked in infrastructure development and budget allocations despite its importance as Nepal’s economic hub.
