Four workers were injured when an iron melting furnace exploded at Jagdamba Steel in Simara, Bara at around 12:45 pm on Friday. Bikendra Yadav, a resident of Sarlahi Satuwan village, was critically injured in the blast which shook houses like a bomb.
He has been referred to Kathmandu in the morning after failing to undergo treatment at the National Health Care in Birgunj. The other four are undergoing treatment in Birgunj, said Deepak Karki, secretary of Akhil Nepal Trade Union Jagdamba. Though the blast took place at 12:45 pm, the nearby police reached the spot only 15 minutes later.
According to DSP Deepak Shrestha, the injured have been identified as Mukesh Sah, a resident of Barhathwa-5, Naimudin Alam and Janak Deb Yadav of India. Two of them have been discharged from Indian Terai Hospital, one has been taken to Kathmandu and one is undergoing treatment at Birgunj Health Care Hospital.
